Teachers, Sex, Unions, Drugs, and More Fraud

Enough said about the success of American students in throwing a football. Our next group of stakeholders, who will be classified as a single group, are the teachers and their unions. Teachers are different than administrators. They work on nine-month contracts, and they get paid less than administrators. At one time, teachers had the respect of the communities in which they worked, but not so much anymore.

One of the first events I attended as a new high school teacher was the quiet retirement party of a woman who had been teaching business subjects for over 30 years. As part of her retirement “gifts” she was given a framed copy of her very first teaching contract with the school system. One clause in her original contract stated that if she became pregnant, she would have to resign her position. She explained that a pregnant teacher was not considered a good influence on the young high school ladies. It is quaint to remember there was once a code of morals that extended to men and women teachers. Such a past standard is hard to believe today as we see more and more female teachers hopping in bed with their male students to have their babies or just for sex.

In August, a jury convicted Colleps on 16 counts of having improper relationships with students. Though the students with whom she had sex—there were five—were all older than the minimum age of consent in Texas, state law prohibits any educator in a primary or secondary school from having sex with any enrolled student, no matter their age.

Amanda Sotelo, a married substitute teacher and mother of two has been jailed pursuant to admitting that she had sexual relations with a 14-year-old boy at the school where she from time to time substituted, which coincidentally has led to her now expecting her third child.

A 24-year-old math teacher has been accused of having sex with at least four of her students. Ashley Nicole-Anderson is alleged to have confessed to a sexual affair with an 18-year-old student. She also performed oral sex on three other students, according to a criminal complaint. Anderson, a math teacher at Aplington-Parkersburg High School, in Iowa City, Iowa, also sent nude photographs of herself to students during an almost year-long series of illicit liaisons.
